Is CBD the answer to the Covid-19 Pandemic?
January 13, 2022

The Covid-19 pandemic has undoubtedly been the most disruptive event in people’s lives across the world since WWII, between lockdowns, curfews and travel restrictions, it is evident that people have had enough of this entire ordeal and are therefore looking for any antidote that might bring a swift end to the pandemonium that has been the last two years. Researchers from Oregon State University may have found this antidote.

Richard Van Breemen Ph.D and his team of researchers recently published their findings in The Journal of Natural Products. The study found that a number of Hemp derived compounds such as CBGA and CBDA can bind themselves to the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein, which blocks a critical step in the infection process in humans. This is the same process pharmaceutical companies use in the development of Covid-19 vaccines.

Research also showed that these Cannabinoids were equally effective across all variants of the virus including the Delta and Omicron strains of Covid-19. Using compounds that block virus-receptor interaction has been helpful for patients with other viral infections, including HIV-1 and hepatitis. Therefore there is precedent for the method in which these cannabinoids fight against the infection of Covid in humans, which further attests to the validity of this study.

What does this mean?

This means that there is evidence the use of CBD and CBG products are effective against Covid-19 and further research will have to answer questions on just how effective it is in comparison and also when used in conjunction with vaccines, so whether you ingest through oil or smoke hemp flower, taking CBD products can help to minimize the risk of contracting the disease as well as making the effects more mild.

This also means that the market for CBD will inevitably grow as everyone is looking for a way to bring the pandemic to an end, if you weren’t already in the industry there is no better time to get involved, help aid the fight against Covid-19 and support the CBD industry today.
