On July 17, 2025, Czech President Petr Pavel signed a groundbreaking bill that officially decriminalizes cannabis for personal use and home cultivation. This move positions the Czech Republic alongside Germany, Malta, and Luxembourg in adopting a decriminalizing legal approach to recreational cannabis. This means that use and cultivation are allowed, but sales remain illegal.
What’s legal under the new law?
Starting next year, adults over 21 in the Czech Republic will be allowed to:
• Grow up to 3 cannabis plants per person for personal use
• Possess up to 100 grams of cannabis flower at home
• Carry up to 25 grams in public
In addition, possessing cannabis for someone else is no longer a criminal offense. Offenses that exceed these limits will be handled separately under the revised Criminal Code.
While sales remain prohibited, this reform is a major step toward modernizing drug laws, reducing pressure on the justice system, and cutting down on the black market.
