For years scientists have been trying to come up with new ways to cure male pattern baldness and as such the market has been flooded with products promising men and women a way to get their hair back. Well now a study from Canada published by the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery (ISHRS) has shown that topical CBD products can increase hair growth by an average of 93.5%.
How does it work?
Although CBD is fat soluble and is not well absorbed past the skin, topical application of CBD reaches hair follicles rather easily. The CBD then acts as a CB1 antagonist, blocking the receptors as well as activating the vanilloid receptor-1(TRPV1) and vanilloid receptor-4 (TRPV4).
These receptors are all part of the endocannabinoid system which plays a role in the function of hair follicles. By blocking the CB1 receptors, CBD promotes hair growth also because the hair follicle cycle is controlled by the TRPV1 receptor. CBD has also been shown to increase Wnt signaling, which causes dermal progenitor cells to differentiate into new hair follicles.
How to use CBD to increase hair growth?
In the study participants used 3-4mg of topical CBD once a day for 6 months. This yielded a result of 74.1% increase in hair growth above the temples in men and 55.2% in women and on the crown of the head, hair growth increased by 120.1% in men and 93.5% in women. This is a good template to use if you want to start using CBD to increase hair growth.
